22nd January

Diaries across the generations from 1965, 1969 and 1974


1974 (Mum 46/ Me 19) Tuesday
Mum – none
Me – In morn had hair “done” by John.  Quite nice.  [John used to do our hair when we were very young and we’d go into the barbers sit on a plank to raise us up and he’d give us sixpence each.  Dad said some years later he used to add the sixpences to his bill. He later got his own salon ‘Hair by John’]. 
Went to work with Ken.  Finished at 7.30 had few drinks with others. Mum made a couple of brown loaves in morn.

1969 (Mum 41/ Me 14) Wednesday
Mum – Met Betty in Plummers for coffee
Me – In morn had English got a book the Cauldron 5/- [5 shillings]
Not bad maths.  After break had Phys-Chem not bad a bit boring.  In evening showed films to Dad, Mum, Bugs, Sally, Nick & Judy. 


Bought Disraeli Gears by Cream off Fred for 15/-  [Fred was a mate of my older brother who later hung himself on remand in prison in Dorset I think, was a nice guy]

Mum – none
Me – had football in playground got red brade from Mr Dolman

1955 (Mum 27/ Me 14 days) Saturday

Preface gives Objects, Structure of the Guild and hints from NUTG advisors on starting up Drama, Music, Social Studies and Arts and Crafts Groups
During the above years mum was looking after myself, my sister 8 years younger and brother 13

1965 (10) Letts School-Boys Diary
Still at Infant/Primary School. Diary quite comprehensive giving facts on First Aid, Atomic Energy, 34 question quiz, books to read (none of which I’ve ever read), Pets, Countries of the World, Duke of Edinburgh Award, Animal Facts, Finding your way by the Sun, in fact a whole mini-book in itself.

1969 (14) Dataday Diary Gives Mileage Chart, Sun & Moon settings and phases, Wine vintage chart, clothing sizes, conversion tables and car details
